Delin Jackson
Success Story
Forty-seven-year-old Delin Jackson from Lexington, S.C., works from home for an insurance company. He enjoys tending to his yard and spending time outdoors. Recently, after cutting the grass, he came back inside and told his wife he was feeling dehydrated and had a headache. He took an over-the-counter medicine and went to bed later that evening, appearing fine.
Early the next morning, Delin’s wife noticed he was restless in bed. When she tried to wake him and ask him basic questions, he could not say his name or where he was. He was also unable to grip her finger with his right hand. As she helped him out of bed, Delin fell to the floor. She immediately called EMS.
Delin was taken to a local acute care hospital, where doctors confirmed he had suffered a stroke. He stayed in the hospital for six days, during which time he was placed on a modified diet and needed full assistance to move.
After considering his options for rehabilitation, Delin and his wife chose Midlands Regional Rehabilitation Hospital (MRRH), a place they were already familiar with after visiting a family member who had been a patient there.
When he arrived at MRRH, Delin needed help managing the effects of the stroke, especially the weakness on his right side and difficulty swallowing. During his 29-day stay, he worked with the hospital’s interdisciplinary healthcare team, who created a customized treatment plan for him that included physical, occupational, and speech therapy. He dedicated himself to regaining independence and made steady progress. By the time he was discharged from the hospital, Delin was able to complete all of his daily tasks on his own, walk with minimal assistance, and resume a normal diet.
Delin continues his recovery with home health therapy. He remains focused on walking without supervision, getting back to work, and returning to his favorite outdoor activities.
